BELI8VE – Federer won his second title at the Church Road and his 8th overall. After a hard two hour fight against his Swiss rival Stanislaw Wawrinka he tooked home the trophy once again.
ATP FEDAL MEDIA: Roger how do you feel after this victory and what does it mean to you?
ROGER: Of course I feel super happy to have this trophy in my arms again, but at the same time I’m feeling super exhausted after the last couple of months, because I pushed my body to the limit to often. I was really nervous for the whole week, because I wanted this title so bad. I just wanna enjoy my achievements right now and take a good rest.
ATP FEDAL MEDIA: Last season you were dominating the whole tour. This season everything seems to be more close than it ever was. What is your perspective?
ROGER: Absolutely! I mean last season I had that boost of confidence and I felt unbeatable for a couple of matches. But I think Rafa and Stan improved a lot over the past 3 or 4 months and I was trying to conservate my form, which coasts me a bunch of work I had to put in. Stan proved in Paris, that everyone can beat everybody at anytime. That’s were the pressure grows also for me. So right now I’m super happy if I can win the big titles against those guys.
ATP FEDAL MEDIA: From your entourage we’ve heard that you had a real hard training program over the last couple of months. Do you have still enough energy play the whole season?
ROGER: That’s right! I’m really proud of my dedication, that I put into this. Cause I know that success will only come if you put in some work. But right now my body tells me to take a rest. I will be off for holidays next week and than I will skip also the ROGERS CUP to be at 100% at the US OPEN.
ATP FEDAL MEDIA: How do you see Rafa and Stan at the moment. Do you think there could be a big changement rankingwhise?
ROGER: It’s hard to say. I mean Rafa had to swallow a lot of bitter pills in the last couple of months. I said it already a few times, this guy deserves my fullest admiration for his attitude and his will to perform. I really want him to win a big title in the future and I’m sure he’s able to do it again if he believes in his self. Right now I see the three of us on the same level. Stan deserve all my praises for the last months. He improved physically a lot and clearly he is the best from the technical point of view. I think Rafa and me need to be superfit to keep up with him. So if I just listen to my feelings, I would say Stan will become number 2 to the end of the year, but you never know. Rafa definitifely will have a shot to win the Us Open and than it will not happen.
ATP FEDAL MEDIA: Right now you won every Slam twice and the gap in the entry list is already big enough to crown you as season ends number 1. What gives you the inspiration to keep pushing?
ROGER: Of course I had a lot of success. But this is only temporary. I always want to taste that smell of victory over and over again. So far I’m still hungry, because I want to proove myself as the best and I want to compete with these guys. I need to find my balance between work and rest, that is key. So perhaps next season I will skip one or two events to be super focused on the ones that I’m playing.
