Roger Federer talked to the Fedal Media Group after his recent Roland Garrros title.
Roger how do you feel after winning your 14th Grand Slam?
Roger: It still means a lot to me to win a Grand Slam against the best of the best. I nearly got emotional after this one, because I knew how hard it’s gonna get to beat Rafa.
What are your thoughts about the match?
Roger: I think Rafa knew and he could feel that he was able to beat me this time. He still is the best player this season in my eyes. But I was really well prepared and I was ready to fight. Luckely for me Rafa was pretty nervous in the beginning. That helped me a lot to find my confidence. After the first set I knew that I could win this.
Fedal is dominating the season so far. Out of 7 possible titles Fedal won 6. How is that coming?
Roger: Obviously Rafa is back at his best. He seems to be in a really good balance also regarding his private life. I’m happy for him and I hope we will share the court many more times for some intense battles. Otherwhise I think that Stan is on the same level as we are. He had just a lot of bad luck facing the big points, but tables will turn. Sascha is always able to beat everyone. You never know what to expect of him.
We heard that you will become the godfather of Stan’s child! True?
Roger: Yeah it’s true! Stan and I became really good friends throughout the years and shared a lot of very intense off-court-moments together. It’s such a privilege that he gave me this possibility! But I mean obviously all the guys from the tour became really close friends. Rafa is like a brother for me, because I know him for more than 20 years and Sascha and I went skiing and it was an absolute blast. For me sharing time with them is as important as beating them on the court.
Roger we all know that you have one big dream tenniswhise. The Grand Slam. Two in, two missing. Do you already think about it?
Roger: Yeah I would be lying if I say no. It is my dream to accomplish this astonnishing achievement of winning all 4 Grand Slams during one Season. The margines are getting smaller and the other guys are not sleeping. I need to be at the top of my game and than it’s possible. I still believe it’s possible. On the other hand it requires a lot of sacrifices. At the moment I’m willing to go all the way. I love training, running and hitting the gym also because it is increasing my state of mind. Perhaps someday it’s different and I have other priorities. So I think I just live for the moment and give everything I can to win the Slam.

Congratulations on your French Open title. You are a great athlete and opponent on the court. I appreciate our rivalry enormously and I am already looking forward to our next encounter. In general, the matches on the FEDAL Tour are my favorite and are a great enrichment to my life. I can get a lot of energy from them, which is very important for me personally.
