Interview with Roger after his historic victory at the US OPEN Season 22/23

Roger Federer has won the US Open 5 times in a row. With a total of 16 GrandSlam titles he is far away from his rivals Rafael Nadal (3 GS Titles) and Stan Wawrinka(1 GS Title).
1.You’ve been working towards this goal of winning the original GrandSlam for a long time, and now it’s happened.
Why did it workout now?
It all came together for me. Luck, believe and mental and physical health. I always knew I will be able to make it happen, but this Season I was like super focused on the Slams. Moreover I found the perfect balance between «I want it so bad» but at the same time some state of relaxation.
2. how did you feel after you achieved it?
I was really proud of course. It was such a hard and long way and especially mentally it was so demanding. I played a lot of five setters and I also had to face a couple of matchpoints against me.
3. Did you celebrate this achievment?
Yes of course it was such a beautiful day. After the US Open victory I had a dinner with Rafa and our girlfriends and I felt a deep inner peace and satisfaction. Also that I have the luck to share the stage with Rafa, Stan and Sascha.
4. do you think you have lost some of your drive now? Or are you still hungry and what are your next goals?
No not at all. I feel so motivated right now and it was such a big release. For me it’s like every day I have to proove myself that I’m the best. I love to compete I love to perform. And now I just enjoy playing the game and sharing the court with my friends. Preparing for the Finals and train hard through the offseason to be ready for the Australian sun.
5. do you think you can do it again?
Yes I can, but there are so many factors internal and external that have to fall in place. So I would say never say never, but for me it feels like once in a lifetime thing.
6. what do you wish for the future?
I want to be a rolemodel and challenge the guys on the tour to improve them self so they can beat me. And with each other we can raise the bar to a new level. But more important I wish everyone good health also for myself and a lot of unforgetable moments on the court. We should appreciate the fact that we can share this experience together. That’s the main thing and it feels more important than every Grand Slam victory. Because without the guys it has not the same value.
